Is Seattle a good place to open up a salon/day spa?

There currently are several profitable spas in Seattle. The question of opening a spa up will be answered in your business plan. Have you defined who your target market is, what type of a spa you will have? Day Spa, Salon Spa, Medical Spa? Do you have a location in mind? Is it Residential? Tourist area? Business Area? As a Salon/Spa you will be needing more of a residential area, take a look at the area you are thinking of and see who the competition is, how are they advertising, where are their clients coming from. Do your homework first. Make sure you have adequate capital to start the business, equipment, training, advertising. The business plan will set you in the right direction and give you the correct choice for you.Is Seattle a good place to open up a salon/day spa?
It all depends on the location. I was in Seatle this past summer and I thuoght that place sucked not only were the people not personable they were just plain weird, and the city its self pretty much sucked too. I mean there were some good places, but most of the city was a dump I thought. Is Seattle a good place to open up a salon/day spa?
Ive lived in seattle my whole life.. i'd say it would if you were trying to get more upper class customers...
it could be. it rains 80% of the year, so you will either get a lot of business cuz of that, or because the weather is so bad no one will go out.
no

its not a good placu may not get enough buisness
im not from there im from NY but in my opinion, anywhere should be a good place to open one of those because there are ALWAYS women everywhere that need to be pampered once in a while. I think the KEY to having a sucessful one of those is to keep the prices low and keep the spirits high so people want to go there and feel good about it, and dont feel like theyre walking into a place where they spend all their money for little results and feel like they are being judged by an obnoxious staff..

Why don't you contact a local business broker and ask for their available listings of Hair %26amp; Beauty Salon/Spa

    Good luck

What is the difference between a salon and a spa?

At a salon you can usually get your hair, nails, and waxing done if you want, but at a spa, you get a bit more pampered, because it is almost guarenteed that it includes waxing, nails, massage, hair, manicures/pedicures, etc. What is the difference between a salon and a spa?
Nothing, the term Spa came from France and is interchageable with Salon. The prevailing winds are blowing towards spa right now so most businesses assimilate accordingly. The descriptive term usually gives you some guideance, such as ???? Hair Salon or ???? Day Spa. Some companies are now using ???? Salon and Spa. The only way to really know what services are provided at any given operation is to visit the website or give them a call. Hope this helps. I know someone that just changed there name from Salon to Spa to keep up with the current trends of the industry.

My twin sister and I are opening up a salon called Jemini Salon & Day spa, what should our slogan be?

The Salon and Day Spa is more Upscale with a contemporary style. We are also trying to come up with ideas for a logo as well, any ideas are welcome? What do you think of the name?

Serious Answers ONLY!!!!My twin sister and I are opening up a salon called Jemini Salon %26amp; Day spa, what should our slogan be?
    Maybe something like:

Twice as Nice as regular spas

Two times the pampering, two times the relaxation

And I like the name, just not the spelling, it's confusing. I'd stick with Gemini. My twin sister and I are opening up a salon called Jemini Salon %26amp; Day spa, what should our slogan be?
    Jemini Salon and Day Spa

    Second to none.
    TWINSTER SALON %26amp; DAY SPA

    will be fitting for you.

Should I buy a spa & salon business in this economy?

I have the opportunity to purchase a salon and spa. The owner inherited the business two years ago. It's not his core skill, and now he wants out, which he's selling at a great price. This business has all factors going for it: five star reviews on Citysearch, an established client base, a downtown location with core residents and tons of walk-by traffic. The business is fully built and successfully running now; I just walk in and take it over. The business itself is running financially at break-even. The business is 50% hair and 50% day spa, of beauty and massage.

Part of me is eager for this. Since the current owner has been only half involved, there's lot of opportunity for new services and new marketing to increase sales.

The other part of me say, ';What, this is nuts!'; Buying this sort of business in this economy, which will probably get worse in 2009, will most likely loose money. When unemployment goes up, ladies will hardly be in the mode to get manicures.

So, any thoughts on purchasing a Salon and Spa business?Should I buy a spa %26amp; salon business in this economy?
    Couple of things strike me..

i)What is your current profession ie do you have any knowledge/ skills /contacts in this trade???

ii) In my experience in a recession the first things to go are luxury items such as Gym membership etc鈥?br>

iii) Will you be borrowing money to buy it

iv) Will you be giving up your current employment to go into this project full time

I think if you ask yourself these questions and answer them honestly you will get your decision

I am trying to come up with a name for a salon and spa. Something original, but not too cliche'.?

small business, naming a business, salon and day spa.I am trying to come up with a name for a salon and spa. Something original, but not too cliche'.?
Since any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party, I wanted to go a different route...

I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a ';name party'; %26amp; have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research.

I listed some links where you can do some preliminary name checking. However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what's out there.

Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free %26amp; a great place to start, so I'd try them out first.

Comprehensive research consists of looking at marks that are similar in Sound, Appearance or Meaning in the pending %26amp; registered Federal AND State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files.

There are other sites that offer free searching capabilities in conjunction with their commercial services, so I'm not able to post those links due to the Yahoo! TOS. You'll also want to check domain names %26amp; yellow pages, so simply do a search for ';free domain name search'; and ';national yellowpages'; and the appropriate links will pop up.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success %26amp; happiness in all your ventures!I am trying to come up with a name for a salon and spa. Something original, but not too cliche'.?
NV day spa, oasis day spa, metamorphisis day spa...
    garden of eden,touch of heaven,magic fingers,feel good spa n saloon,fantasy place,the body works,the beauty stop.etc
Things you might consider...where are you located? Does it lend a feeling of tranquility that you might want to consider in your name? Does your spa offer any unique treatments that others do not? What is the decor of your spa? European, asian? Is it modern, convervative, earthy? I have helped a couple of spas with names, logos and even their web sites. If you'd be interested in me helping you out, please check out my site www.tripleidesigns.com and contact me from there. We are aggressivley adding to our portfolio so we are offering really great rates on our services right now.

    Hope that helps!
    ';Sally's Salon and Spa';

Or substitute some other name beginning with ';S';. It will make designing the sign more fun, make it easier to remember. Try to avoid puns, they only make it harder to interpret what it is you actually do.
    use ';Curl up and Dye';

it will be like free advertising

    Day Spa/Salon owners?

Hi I need some help from some experienced, non-biased, successful day spa/salon owners.

My sister in law and I have decided to open a day spa/salon/accessory boutique. I need help trying to figure out how to make finances fair between the two of us. I have ran a construction business for the last 7 years (accounting, banking, taxes, etc.), my sister in law is a hair stylist. So she is going to be part owner and keep her job being hair stylist and help when her schedule allows with running the salon. I am going to be part owner, running the salon, and doing retail, taxes, accounting etc. She will obviously have the steady income of her clients, but I will have to leave my positon with my construction company and devote my time to the new spa. How will I get paid? How do you handle finances with a partnership? Bc I dont have clients I dont have a steady income but I feel like I am managing the spa. Please advise. Thank you.Day Spa/Salon owners?

Day Spa/ Salon owners I need your help?

Hi :) Im opening a day spa/salon in a little city in AZ (we have 1 main highway and 1 parkway the cuts over town), there are hair salons and asian nail places on every corner and 1 very old ';day spa'; where they offer massages, facials and body wraps. I will be offering hair, nails, massage, estitician, spa room etc. I am trying to bring a classy nice relaxing place to my little city, I was born and raised here and like the finer things in life, many friends, neighbors and business people are looking very forward to me opening. My problem I have 2 locations and need help picking the one that makes the most business sense.

Building #1...Is on a side road off the main hwy across the street from a side exit of a Super Wal-Mart center, its a beautiful brand new building but semi close to some old apartments and a big Dollar General building is next to this one. The other units in this building are leased by a restaurant, winery, mortgage office, and pottery place.

Building #2...Is a very nice 2 story strip mall on the main hwy the upper level is all office units and the lower level consists of big retail units. The other units that are being leased are a asian nail shop, a clothing boutique, a hair salon, a restaurant, anything medical, farmers ins, a lighting store and several others.

We are worried with 1 bc of location and 2 bc the competing hair and nails.

Please advise thank you :)Day Spa/ Salon owners I need your help?
i don't own a business but i would go to the 1st place (Walmart will attract more customers)

It will all boil down to a lot of factors like your target market (genderwise and how much can they afford), the probability of development in both locations, your unique selling proposition against your competitors, etc. Of course, this will be reflected in your business plan.

your city is soooo small, I presume you are not planning on adding

    in your community.

I make that ';quick claim'; because of the terms

';percent of market'; available. I claim it is less than 5%.

    YOU need 20%.
Location is one of the most important factors.

From your description, id pick the 1st one. less competition, a super wal-mart (that everyone probably goes to), and theres nothing wrong with a Dollar General (in fact it was one of the few stores that is doing well in this economy). The winery (and another type of business that is doing well) couldn't hurt if your stores going to be an upscale luxury salon.
You need to study the leases for both locations. Consider the difference in rent, triple net costs and the like. If the rent is nearly the same, I would go with the first site. Trying to muscle in on established salons is not the smartest way to do business.

If there is an option of bays for site one, try to get one near the winery and away from the Dollar General.

what kind of masage was it?what was it like? what did you like? what you didn't like? please give detailsHas anyone been on a professional masage in a salon or spa center?
The key with massage is not necessarily what kind, but how well the masseuse does and whether or not they listen to you. So if they are massaging too hard, they should listen to you if you want it to be more gentle. If you don't have much money to spend, then you can find a massage school and make an appointment - they always need clients to practice on. Also, massage therapy students need to log ';x'; number of hours on clients before they can be licensed, and they are not allowed to charge for those massages, although you should definitely leave them a tip. I've seen someone a couple of times who is logging hours and have been very happy, and he's not allowed to charge a fee (he has a room set up at the chiropractor's office). But if you have your massage at the actual school, the school may charge a fee. Being a client at a massage school should enable you to afford trying different styles of massage without it costing too much.

Hope this helps.Has anyone been on a professional masage in a salon or spa center?

    Hi,

Most times the spa will give your back a deep cleansing which includes a steam treatment, exfoliation and extractions. They will also do a mask on your back, being as that you are prone to acne it will be suited for the acne. They may also have some type of peel.

Whatever you decide I KNOW most spas should be able to treat your problem. Pretty easy not the end o f the worldAcne treatment at at a spa? salon? dermatologist?

If you鈥檙e looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne鈥?prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.

For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it鈥檚 advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.

Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

    http://www.acne-treatment-medicine-1.inf鈥?/a>
I HAVE THE ANSWER TO ACNE!

I have a teen aged brother and me who have struggled with Acne for years...we tried many things, including Proactive and prescription medicines as well. Then, we found the solution.

Please don't shrug it off because this can help you a lot.

I was searching through the Internet and found www.acne.org. The site is owned by a guy named Dan. Dan, struggled with acne as well. He read medical books and tried many things on the market. Then, he found the way. BENZYL PEROXIDE! Now, I bet you have used it many times before but it hasn't done much right? Well, the reason is because everything on the market is 5% or 10% Benxyl Peroxide. These irritate your skin which causes MORE acne! (Touching it irritates it as well which causes more acne.) There is one thing on the market that has non irritating Benzyl Peroxide....2.5% Benzyl Peroxide. Netrogena on the Spot Acne Cream has 2.5. Nothing else on the market. You can get stuff on the Internet that have 2.5%! It is also on the site www.acne.org.

The regimen includes: First washing your face with a cleanser (suggested ones are on the site)

Then, drying and adding LARGE AMOUNTS or Benzyl Peroxide. In the beginning very little but you rank it up to 2 fingers after time.

Last, you moisturize, because the Benzyl Peroxide may dry up your skin. Suggested ones are on the website as well.

Go to www.acne.org and read about the clear skin regimen.

THIS MAN IS NOT TRYING TO MAKE MONEY...HE IS NOT SELLING ANYTHING!

He just wants to help. I have clear skin and so does Dan. There is also a forum where you can read more. The site teaches you how to pop a zit the right way and to find out other products that have work well.

    I hope I Helped!

(My brother who is also a teen is clear as well. This regimen takes about 8 weeks to be completely clear but you will see gradually the acne go away. There is no cure for acne, so you have to do the regimen every day until acne goes away.)

iT WORKS ON BACK ACNE AS WELL.
well try laser sugery or stem treatment
Yes, a dermatologist would be a good idea. However, you must also realize that acne is not just about the external. In fact, acne results from imbalances and/or deficiancies within the body. Treat the internal cause of the acne, and your acne will lessen or even disappear. The problem with Proactive and so many other acne creams is that they only treat the surface of the skin, but not the actual underlying problem. The causes for such imbalances/deficiencies can vary depending on the individual, but the following are most common:

    1.) Hormonal imbalance during adolescense

2.) Diet- injesting too much sugar, saturated %26amp; trans fat can cause it, as well as preservatives, chemicals in food, and highly processed foods (breads, crackers, chips, ect.) because these throw your body chemistry out of whack. Some people are very sensitive to carbohydrates, so they must take care to consume low glycemic foods and healthy fats.%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; Personal Story- when I cut ALL sugar and processed carbs (breads, crackers, chips, ect.) out of my diet and ate primarilly lean meats and vegetables while supplementing with cod liver oil, my acne cleared up and my skin glowed!

3.) Lack of omega 3 fatty acids in diet and/or imbalance of Omega 6 vs. Omega 3. Omega 3's can be found in fatty fish, flax seed, and walnuts. If you hate fish and are afraid of the calories in walnuts, a teaspoon of flaxseed oil a few times a day with meals will help.

4.) Wheat/gluten and/or Dairy intollerance. Many people are slightly allergic to foods high in gluten such as wheat (common), as well as dairy products and this can manifest itself as acne. The best test to see if your acne is wheat/gluten/dairy related is to cut out all wheat products and other gluten-containing grains and or dairy for 2 weeks. If this doesn't drastically improve your acne, it will definately help your body to take on a more lean appearance. *Note- Many people are hesistant to cut dairy due to calcium concerns. Dairy is not the only source of calcium. In fact, dark green vegetables are a superior source to dairy products. I purchased a Jack LaLane Juicer and I juice Kale and collard greens 2x per day as well as eating organic baby green salad 3-4X a day and it has seriously cleared my acne up as well as providing tons of energy!

Feel free to e-mail me for more info. or if you have any questions...I'm a personal trainer, so I enjoy helping people. I found out all this stuff through my own research as I was getting fed up with acne just like you and I was frustrated that nothing seemed to work.

    Take care! -grlinwhite

Opening a day spa/beauty salon and need help with a classy name?

Brainstorming Tips for Creating a Name:

Any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party and/or may be trademarked so I wanted to go a different route...

Here's a few things to keep in mind:

    1) Keep your industry, your clients/customers, your advertising plan in mind.

    2) The more unique %26amp; distinctive a name, the higher the chances that the name is legally available for use. And the higher the chances of obtaining the trademark.

    3) Think of your business as having a personality. What kind of image do you want your business to portray?

    Specific brainstorming tips:

Think about what you want but more importantly, think about what you DON'T want. If you don't want a 3-word name, don't bother with those. If you don't want non-English words, don't bother with those %26amp; so on and so forth.

What are the ';types'; of names you like? Think about words in their simple forms, e.g. adjectives, Latin roots, mythological names, etc. Compile a listing of the types %26amp; then seek out resources, such as books or sites, which specialize in those types.

Here are some links where you can do some preliminary name checking:

http://www.uspto.gov/trademarks/index.js鈥?/a> 鈥?Click Search Marks: USPTO 鈥?Preliminary Search of Federal trademarks

http://www.statelocalgov.net/50states-se鈥?/a> --Go to your state's Secretary of State page to see if they have a searchable database of business names

    http://www.hoovers.com/free/

http://www.thomasnet.com 鈥?Must register (free) to search their database

    http://www.nameboy.com 鈥?Domain name search

http://yellowpages.superpages.com/yp.adv鈥?/a> 鈥?National yellow pages; leave location blank to search nationwide

However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what's out there.

Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free %26amp; a great place to start, so I'd try them out first. This entails searching the pending %26amp; registered Federal and State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files. Then, if clear, you can decide if you would like to file for a Federal or a State trademark.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success %26amp; happiness in all your ventures!

I'm looking to buy a Salon & Spa. What questions should I ask the owners.?

In planning your first salon you should budget for the best quality equipment you can possibly afford and that major equipment items offer sufficient flexibility to encompass the full range of therapies and treatments that you envisage offering, both initially and as your business develops.

The design of your key equipment, a treatment couch or chair should provide for client comfort and an effective treatment; it should also afford a safe and comfortable working environment for the therapist. The working height of a couch is most important and couches may need to be at varying heights to suit your staff. A flexible alternative is the hydraulic or electric couch - these can be quickly and easily adapted to suit individual treatments. Correct posture for a seated therapist is vital and ergonomic seating contributes to the welfare of the practitioner.

Most heavy-duty static couches are multi-functional and will be suited to a variety of treatments. If you are diversifying over a number of therapies, you should know that beauty equipment offering the comfort of thick padding may not be so well suited to massage or manipulative work which requires the firm support of higher density foam.

If space is at a premium a single major piece of equipment can be adapted to many disciplines. A top specification electric couch will be strong enough for heavy massage and sufficiently flexible to convert to a chair for foot and beauty work.

Further versatility for manipulation treatment may be offered where the design of the couch provides a lifting leg or knee elevation or sectioned to provide both a positive and negative tilt facility offering a wide variety of treatment positions for massage therapy, medical application and also useful in leg waxing and foot treatments. Where you are buying from the manufacturer you may be able to specify the dimensions of your major equipment item so that it is customised to your needs.

Where the full range of equipment and accessories is available from a single supplier you may coordinate items in terms of material, colour and finish, giving an overall effect of harmony and uniformity. Major manufacturers should offer you an extensive range of choice.

Buying the least expensive couch may be a false economy. Such items become shabby quite quickly and will not be sufficiently robust to withstand the demands of a busy salon. If your budget is tight then my advice is to buy quality items that are relevant to your initial needs and as your business prospers, you can gradually enhance your facilities. You are offering a professional service and the investment in equipment should reflect this fact; a quality image will result in customer and employee satisfaction which will give you the return on investment.

Make sure you plan to purchase your equipment well enough in advance, one of the most common statements made to our sales consultants is “I’m opening in 2 weeks time and I am looking for a complete salon suite”!.

Ground work can be carried out well in advance, as long as you have your treatment plans in place you can begin your search for the right equipment to encompass the treatments your salon will be offering, even before you have your premises. Also take into account your longer term business plan and choose equipment that will grow with your business and be able to adapt to perhaps more treatments being introduced as you progress.

Your colour scheme can also be planned well in advance so when you are ordering your equipment you know what finish /colours will match your overall design. e.g. wooden natural theme, clinical colours, or corporate colours.,etc

For your main equipment, such as electronic couches /tables/plinths, treatments chairs you must allow at least 4-6 weeks for its manufacture. If you having bespoke furniture made to your special dimensions then 6 weeks is the absolute minimum you should allow for your equipment to be made. Also if you are ordering from a company who offers a personal installation service with their delivery you need to notify them well in advance of your opening date to ensure that a delivery date is booked for you.

A common error is that more money is spent on the aesthetics’ of the salon and the furniture takes ‘back stage’. Designers and architects are not necessarily the best authority to give you advice on therapy equipment. They know about the things they are qualified to do and that’s design and plan buildings, staircases, flooring, doors and perhaps can advise on plumbing and electrics etc. In our experience they do not have working knowledge of therapists and remember the business you are in is very, very specialist. If you can be lucky enough to have the chance to talk to an actual equipment manufacturer about your equipment needs they have the business knowledge combined with an in depth-product knowledge to best advise and give guidance. They will be well experienced in dealing with salons and spas on a daily basis and will know what will best works in your salon environment and, more importantly, what doesn’t work. They may highlight certain issues that you may not have even considered and would certainly not be considered by an architect.I'm looking to buy a Salon %26amp; Spa. What questions should I ask the owners.?
Number 1: Why are they selling the business? Could mean MANY things.

Number 2: What kind of competition is there?

Number 3: What costs/debt/problems are you inheriting?

Number 4: Is the location good, because that could make all of the difference? How long has this place been in business?

Number 5: Who is going to do the managing of daily activities of the business if it's not you?

Number 6: Think about who is going to leave the company should ownership change and how change might affect morale. Loyalty is huge

Number 7: Think about how much you know about the industry and how this salon %26amp; spa's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, going to affect you

Number 8: How has the advertising been done? If necessary, you should think about a new marketing strategy

Number 9: Look at the financials to see what the profitability is; cash flow statement, balance sheet, income statement, etc.

Number 10: How many times has the ownership changed? If it's many, that's a bad sign

Number 11: What is the mission statement, and if there's not one, you better creat one and create a vision for this business. You can't go anywhere as a business unless you know what direction you want to take it.

Number 12: how are you going to create value for your clients?

Number 13: How have you been keeping your employees happy?

Number 14: Will the culture of the business change and how will you manage that change and adapt to it if that happens?

Number 15: Ask YOURSELF how much you know about the health code regulations with this type of business.

There are so many other questions to ask, but I feel that these are pretty important questions. Something else to think about it what type of exit strategy and time frame you have to give it a try before you default on loans and foreclose on a business.

I am buying an existing salon & spa business. Should I keep the same name and deco. or totally renovate?

The success of your business is dependent on the reputation of the establishment. There was a spa salon in the Scottsdale AZ area that was sold to a new owner. They maintained the original name, but the name was ';mud'; in the community. Bounced checks, lawsuits, overall a bad reputation. It was difficult to get it back on track, a new name would have done wonders. How old was the establishment? Does it look dated or worn? If so update, renovate and recontact the list of former clients and win them back with the new management. Let Spavelous help you. You can list for free once you are open for business.I am buying an existing salon %26amp; spa business. Should I keep the same name and deco. or totally renovate?
Part of the money you are paying for the business is goodwill - the fact that the business is already going and has an existing customer base. If you are leaving the basics of the business the same, you can take advantage of that by leaving the name the same. It will save you a lot of advertising expense in the short term. You might do a survey of the employees and customers about the decorating. If they think it is fine the way it is, save your money.I am buying an existing salon %26amp; spa business. Should I keep the same name and deco. or totally renovate?
i hope you would not be buying a loss making venture... and if so then you should be having the guts and will power to convert it into the profitable one.

whats the need to renovate if the business that you are buying is already running profitably... instead you can use your funds for marketing
Well, if you already have budget then plan to renovate, do it that way. It is going to look fresh and the look as you like and want. But this is not cheap. Think the overhead cost as well.

If the business that you buy is a good running one, why bother to change it now. Do it later, when it really need a new fresh look.

Good luck with your new business.
What Brian says is true, but does it reflect who you are? You could add some touches that says you are the new owner. Do you like the way it looks or would you like to add a personal touch?
    If the salon is ver successful or doing just fine as it is, don't do anything to it. However, if it's failing but has the potential to be everything you feel it could be and more, then do just that, renovate, give it a new name, set a new standard for that location, and cross your fingers, and hope it works. There are several questions you have to ask yourself, and one is, ';If it's a failing business, is it because the owner doesn't know what they're doing, or is it the location?';

They won't even reach to the curler. Please answer!Does anyone know of a spa or salon that does lash extensions in the Mobile, AL/Pensacola, FL/Destin, FL area?
Try this place. If they can't help you, they may know someone who can. It sounds like they have what you need.

I had heard of this place but to search I either use quotation marks or a plus sign to narrow it down. For this, I typed in lash extensions+pensacola in the Yahoo search. Sometimes it narrows it too much but usually it helps. Glad that was what you needed

SIMS Open for Business- Beauty Salon and Spa?

I open a salon and spa in the game and I was under the impression that I would be doing sims' hair and makeup etc and making them over. However, there doesn't seem to be an option for this!?? They just go straight out to the spas. And when I try to click on the mirrors and benches nothing comes up... Is it because I got rid of the old ratty looking brown barber shop chairs that were in there originally? Are these chairs required to makeover the customers?

HELP please!SIMS Open for Business- Beauty Salon and Spa?
yeah sadly you do neet to use the ratty old barber chairs, you need to get your sim to be a stylist by click the barber chair and then click on a chair then select ';offer makeover to sim'; thens select the sims name and then they will come over and sit in the chair, your sim wil then performa make over, during the make over it will either have another screen pop up where you can change the customer sims hair and makup

but sometimes if your hairdresser sim is only a newbie, they will sometimes stuff the make over up and put make up like a clown all over the customer sims face, if this happens you just have to keep trying to offer a makeover ot that sim until you get the window with the apperance changer like the hair and makeup

if you dont like the colours of the barber chairs try downloading some different colours, here is a link below to a download for some, you need to sign up to downloadSIMS Open for Business- Beauty Salon and Spa?
I really never did the whole Beauty Salon thing, but I think that you need to leave those chairs as they are required, also maybe it's best to leave the spa out for right now and see if the Sims are only attracted to the spa. Sometimes if you take an object away they will go to do other things like go get their hair or makeup done. Also the Sims seem to love to use the spa.

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal %26amp; Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

What is a good tip for someone who cuts my hair and charges 35.00 and has a nice spa salon? Is 20.00 a good tip?

20 is very very generous.. usually 20 percent is good which would be 350 and 350 of 35.00 which would be 7 dollars, so like ten would be nice if you like ur cut, but if u wana be really generous and really love the cut u could give 12-15 is nice. 20s kinda a lot and once u give 20 u may feel like u always have to give 20. But 35 is not bad for a cut, I've paid 150.00. So go with whatever u think :)What is a good tip for someone who cuts my hair and charges 35.00 and has a nice spa salon? Is 20.00 a good tip?

yah thats an awesome tip, im a hairstylist and usually my clients will tip me around $10
    If I was charged $35 for a haircut I would leave a $15 tip.

    I think $20 is a good tip.
I'd say 10.00 is already a good tip. 20.00? You'll absolutely make her day!
i'm a stylist and if you tipped me 20 on a 35 cut i'd love you forever lol! but realistically $10 is nice.

  • What can I wear for a job interview at a Beauty salon & SPA ??

Im interviewing for a receptionist position at a Beauty Salon and SPA.. I have never really worked at a beauty salon, so I really am clueless on what should be appropriate for the interview... Help !

    Also.-

I really really want to get this job .. any advise on what would help me get it ??

What can I wear for a job interview at a Beauty salon %26amp; SPA ??
    http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/search.sets?…

    check it out!

GL!What can I wear for a job interview at a Beauty salon %26amp; SPA ??
Just wear a nice somewhat dressy outfit. Once you start working at the spa or salon, you will have to dress up everyday, so wear something that you feel you would wear to work. This will show the employer what to expect from you if they were to hire you. As long as you look nice, neat, and cleaned up they should hire you, as long as you fit the job requirements.

And something to do to try and get the job is just to be yourself. Be very friendly and smile a lot. Chat with the interviewer, but dont be too chatty.

    Good luck!!!
Go with something very simple, yet elegant.

As far as the interview goes, try emphasize your eagerness to help and ability to learn quickly. Try to highlight various abilities or skills you've acquired that will help you in filling the position:

-Courteous customer service over the phone and in person

    -Multitasking

-Remaining calm under busy or hectic situations

    -Scheduling

    Good luck and have fun!
Don't over-do it- it should be kind of business casual... minimal, but classy. The general dress code for a spa is black.

I would probably wear a pair of black skinny pants with a slouch at the bottom and a pair of wedge shoes, with a cute collared shirt. The pants could also be maybe a pair of black floods or a pair of capri's maybe with a flat shoe. I wouldn't wear a pair of pants that go above the knee or a skirt or dress. And if you're going to wear heels, I would stick with a wedge shoe- if your heels are too thin or high, you'll end up looking like a hooker!

    Hope this helps!
Have you been to the beauty salon before? If you have, did you notice what the employees were wearing? Take clues from that. I will mention that typically the cosmetic standard is to wear black, but this varies from company to company. Also, when it comes to your makeup keep it simple and approachable. Less is more.
I think the main thing you want to do is to style your hair, your nails, and your face. It would help show them that you have real potential and that you strive for beauty, daily.

As for the outfit, you could wear something simple and casual, but still professional. Such as, a collared shirt and a skirt with nice open-toed high heels. Or a nice and cute blouse with jeans or nice pants with flip flops.
id wear formal pants and a short sleeve white shirt for any interview.

make sure your hair and makeup looks amazing, make sure u get your eyebrow and lip waxed a couple of days before and paint ur fingernails (and toenails if showing). As this shows you are interested in fashion and beauty, i know the first thing my boss does is look at toenails if they are showing.
for a top i would do somthin like this:

Make sure your hair is done, and your hands look nice! Not too much makeup(natural is best)
    Something classy and beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeautiful!
Just dress casually. You don't want to look like you're trying too hard...... maybe some nice skinny jeans and a cute little top. Nothing fancy...
Wear a nice classy dress. Act confident and be yourself.
    A suit never hurts anything...
Some Smart Black Trousers And A White Shirt.. Average Black Heels.. Simple But Effective

Can you go to any reputable spa and salon to get a ';Brazilian';? Does it hurt?

Most of them should do it- but call and see. Although maybe it's not something people talk about (or maybe they do) you might want to ask around to people who have had it done and where. YOu can usually narrow down a good place by this method.

I have been looking in to doing this because I hate the stubble and I have gotten several recommendations on one place in my city. They were told that your hair had to be a certain length- like if you shave now you will have to let it grow in about 1/4 in. And several people have recommended using a numbing cream that you can get at most drug stores. I don't know that name of it but you can ask at the drug store. You put it on before you go and it helps to numb the skin so it is less painful. I hear this is better than tylenol etc because those types of medication can thin your blood a bit (not sure if this is true) and you might bleed more (if there is any bleeding).

Good luck. I hope I get brave enough to do this as well. Can you go to any reputable spa and salon to get a ';Brazilian';? Does it hurt?
Not all salons do this. Ring before you go and make an appointment. It smarts, but I wouldn't say as painful as having your legs waxed. Beware the ingrowing hairs about 2 weeks later!! Make sure you exfoliate before you go and every day afterwards! Can you go to any reputable spa and salon to get a ';Brazilian';? Does it hurt?
You should call first. It does hurt, but it is well worth it. Take Advil/Tylenol before you go and try to relax. It will hurt less if you do it more frequently. You should find someone with whom you are at ease because it will be easier to be comfortable.
    id say so
If its a wax.. um yeah it does hurt when they peel it off but be careful because when they use that stuff, they use it on everyone else so you should do it yourself. Too many stds going around.
Yes. It isn't the most comfy thing to get done, but it is over fast.
    oh, yeah!
Elizabeth Arden's Red Door Spa does it and does a good job. I'm not gonna lie, it hurts. Take Tylenol before you go. Totally worth it though. It also hurts WAY less the second time and a little less than that every time after because your hair thins out.
yes and it hurts like hell
Yes, Call before and make an appointment. Yes it hurts like hell.

What I do is, use Veet bladeless razors, leave on for 3 mins, It works very well, doesnt work and not to many bumps. If its not all gone then just use a razor for the rest, but it should be!

Is a cheap salon eyebrow wax as good as one at an expensive spa?

I have been growing out my eyebrows a bit because they were too small. Now it is time to start over and get a new shape. Should I go to a cheap salon ($10) or a spa ($20+). Will it make a difference? Is a cheap salon eyebrow wax as good as one at an expensive spa?
I think the wax can make a big difference. Some wax contains conditioners for the skin and peels off with more ease than others. It's true though that the technician makes a big difference. Make sure they are a trained esthetician.

If I were you though I would look into electrolysis for your eyebrows. The shape of brows does not change with the fashion trends. Is a cheap salon eyebrow wax as good as one at an expensive spa?
If you have to go out to have your eyebrows waxed use the cheap salon but you can save a ton of money by buing your own wax pot at Sally's or another beauty supply store and you can use Starbucks stirrers instead of the expensive sticks and cut stips from an old undershirt.
it rally depends on who u go to. u can go to a place where u get ur nails done and they other waxing a t a good price but they wack ur eye brows off or they end up crooked. TRUST ME I KNOW!

When you go, ask if u can see how they do it or see the before and after of someone there getting it done.

when u find someone u like DON'T LET ANY ONE ELSE DO THEM! my girl was busy so i let someone else wax mine and it was a mistake! i should have waited

Tips - How much should I tip my manicurist? It's not a spa or Elizabeth Arden type of salon?

I know the tip is usually 15-20%. But the service is different and location is in a shopping center. They do a great job on my nails. I'm asking because sometimes they answer their personal phone, and speak in their language (which is uncomfortable), or get up and walk to the back without excusing themselves. etc. Not great courtesy or manners. And sometimes that changes the tip I was planning on giving. Any tips? (LOL!)Tips - How much should I tip my manicurist? It's not a spa or Elizabeth Arden type of salon?
I tip according to the 15-20 percent rule, but tend to tip a little more if the experience and the quality of the service is better than I expected.

I understand what you mean about some of the strip mall type nail salon etiquette. Some workers can be ignorant because they did not learn manners about how to treat a customer.

Use your own judgment. Don't decide your tip amount based on location but I would tip higher too if the person did more than one service for me and I was happy with the results.

That goes for airports, restaurants, taxis, any kind of service that requires a tip.

People remember you next time when you tip them well for good service.

Feeling pampered and satisfied with the service is very important and it is the determining factor in how much you are to tip for your service.Tips - How much should I tip my manicurist? It's not a spa or Elizabeth Arden type of salon?
if they answered their personal phone and spoke in a native language i wouldn't (and don't ) tip AT ALL. i tell them what i am there for and how i EXPECT to be treated. if they can't understand english that's their problem. not mine.

';i would like to have my fills done. does anyone here speak english because that's the only language i know'; (lie! i speak 7 languages fluently. and i know what they are saying)
I do not tend to tip unless they impress me. If you do not like the service do not but if you have to $2-$5.

I am planning to open a Skin Care Salon with Spa. What do you think? Is it a good idea?

'; Have a Unique Day'; or ';Unique Body %26amp; Hair';.

    Good Luck!
For generic names, how about something like ';Pampered Self'; or ';Decadence';? Maybe ';Head to Toe Hedonism';?

I'm opening a salon and spa supply store, I want to buy some better products in bulk. How/Where w/o license? ?

Where can I buy brand name beauty products in bulk without a cosmetology license?I'm opening a salon and spa supply store, I want to buy some better products in bulk. How/Where w/o license? ?
You may have better luck getting the suppllies from Paul Mitchell and Pantene if you pay $10 at the Secretary of State's Office to buy a trade name. Once you have a registered trade name, i think the suppliers will ship to you in bulk..

What is the difference in a pedicure from a discount nail salon and one from a spa?

You'll need to read what is performed for what you pay. Sometimes there is no difference in the service, you might be paying for: that nicer chair you sit on, the longer length of time it takes for the service to be performed in order to feel pampered, high rent on the location maybe?, etc., etc.

    You get it.

  • What are your favorite services to get at a salon or day spa and why? Favorite part of whole visit?

I like the full pamper treatments...massages, facials, pedis/manis, haircut/style, and makeup. I like to leave there feeling like a new person. I like the salons that offer free snacks and beverages. In the winter I like some hot chocolate and a chocolate bon bon or even just tea...in the summer offer water or lemonade and a piece of minty chocolate. Chocolate is always a great thing to have at a salon spa...it gives the women a feeling of ephoria, which will make them want to return. Always have nice soothing music, it doesn't have to be just classical music...easy listening music is wonderful and classics are nice to hear too...if you want to make it a fun spa, have jazzy or big band (swing) music to make it original. I wouldn't keep the top 20 hits on replay. I think having inviting colors and intimate settings are ideal. The best experience is making sure timing is everything...don't leave a women waiting in the massage room if her nail appt. is running late. Take her to a general area when she is ready to leave the room for a beverage and current magazines. What are your favorite services to get at a salon or day spa and why? Favorite part of whole visit?
I love getting massages. The therapist plays soothing music and lights candles. I feel like I'm a celebrity almost. I can actually just relax and feel like someone is taking care of me. It's heaven. I always get ';stress relief massages';, so no deep tissue kneading.
