Is Seattle a good place to open up a salon/day spa?

There currently are several profitable spas in Seattle. The question of opening a spa up will be answered in your business plan. Have you defined who your target market is, what type of a spa you will have? Day Spa, Salon Spa, Medical Spa? Do you have a location in mind? Is it Residential? Tourist area? Business Area? As a Salon/Spa you will be needing more of a residential area, take a look at the area you are thinking of and see who the competition is, how are they advertising, where are their clients coming from. Do your homework first. Make sure you have adequate capital to start the business, equipment, training, advertising. The business plan will set you in the right direction and give you the correct choice for you.Is Seattle a good place to open up a salon/day spa?
It all depends on the location. I was in Seatle this past summer and I thuoght that place sucked not only were the people not personable they were just plain weird, and the city its self pretty much sucked too. I mean there were some good places, but most of the city was a dump I thought. Is Seattle a good place to open up a salon/day spa?
Ive lived in seattle my whole life.. i'd say it would if you were trying to get more upper class customers...
it could be. it rains 80% of the year, so you will either get a lot of business cuz of that, or because the weather is so bad no one will go out.
no

its not a good placu may not get enough buisness
im not from there im from NY but in my opinion, anywhere should be a good place to open one of those because there are ALWAYS women everywhere that need to be pampered once in a while. I think the KEY to having a sucessful one of those is to keep the prices low and keep the spirits high so people want to go there and feel good about it, and dont feel like theyre walking into a place where they spend all their money for little results and feel like they are being judged by an obnoxious staff..

Why don't you contact a local business broker and ask for their available listings of Hair %26amp; Beauty Salon/Spa

    Good luck

What is the difference between a salon and a spa?

At a salon you can usually get your hair, nails, and waxing done if you want, but at a spa, you get a bit more pampered, because it is almost guarenteed that it includes waxing, nails, massage, hair, manicures/pedicures, etc. What is the difference between a salon and a spa?
Nothing, the term Spa came from France and is interchageable with Salon. The prevailing winds are blowing towards spa right now so most businesses assimilate accordingly. The descriptive term usually gives you some guideance, such as ???? Hair Salon or ???? Day Spa. Some companies are now using ???? Salon and Spa. The only way to really know what services are provided at any given operation is to visit the website or give them a call. Hope this helps. I know someone that just changed there name from Salon to Spa to keep up with the current trends of the industry.

My twin sister and I are opening up a salon called Jemini Salon & Day spa, what should our slogan be?

The Salon and Day Spa is more Upscale with a contemporary style. We are also trying to come up with ideas for a logo as well, any ideas are welcome? What do you think of the name?

Serious Answers ONLY!!!!My twin sister and I are opening up a salon called Jemini Salon %26amp; Day spa, what should our slogan be?
    Maybe something like:

Twice as Nice as regular spas

Two times the pampering, two times the relaxation

And I like the name, just not the spelling, it's confusing. I'd stick with Gemini. My twin sister and I are opening up a salon called Jemini Salon %26amp; Day spa, what should our slogan be?
    Jemini Salon and Day Spa

    Second to none.
    TWINSTER SALON %26amp; DAY SPA

    will be fitting for you.

Should I buy a spa & salon business in this economy?

I have the opportunity to purchase a salon and spa. The owner inherited the business two years ago. It's not his core skill, and now he wants out, which he's selling at a great price. This business has all factors going for it: five star reviews on Citysearch, an established client base, a downtown location with core residents and tons of walk-by traffic. The business is fully built and successfully running now; I just walk in and take it over. The business itself is running financially at break-even. The business is 50% hair and 50% day spa, of beauty and massage.

Part of me is eager for this. Since the current owner has been only half involved, there's lot of opportunity for new services and new marketing to increase sales.

The other part of me say, ';What, this is nuts!'; Buying this sort of business in this economy, which will probably get worse in 2009, will most likely loose money. When unemployment goes up, ladies will hardly be in the mode to get manicures.

So, any thoughts on purchasing a Salon and Spa business?Should I buy a spa %26amp; salon business in this economy?
    Couple of things strike me..

i)What is your current profession ie do you have any knowledge/ skills /contacts in this trade???

ii) In my experience in a recession the first things to go are luxury items such as Gym membership etc鈥?br>

iii) Will you be borrowing money to buy it

iv) Will you be giving up your current employment to go into this project full time

I think if you ask yourself these questions and answer them honestly you will get your decision

I am trying to come up with a name for a salon and spa. Something original, but not too cliche'.?

small business, naming a business, salon and day spa.I am trying to come up with a name for a salon and spa. Something original, but not too cliche'.?
Since any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party, I wanted to go a different route...

I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a ';name party'; %26amp; have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research.

I listed some links where you can do some preliminary name checking. However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what's out there.

Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free %26amp; a great place to start, so I'd try them out first.

Comprehensive research consists of looking at marks that are similar in Sound, Appearance or Meaning in the pending %26amp; registered Federal AND State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files.

There are other sites that offer free searching capabilities in conjunction with their commercial services, so I'm not able to post those links due to the Yahoo! TOS. You'll also want to check domain names %26amp; yellow pages, so simply do a search for ';free domain name search'; and ';national yellowpages'; and the appropriate links will pop up.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success %26amp; happiness in all your ventures!I am trying to come up with a name for a salon and spa. Something original, but not too cliche'.?
NV day spa, oasis day spa, metamorphisis day spa...
    garden of eden,touch of heaven,magic fingers,feel good spa n saloon,fantasy place,the body works,the beauty stop.etc
Things you might consider...where are you located? Does it lend a feeling of tranquility that you might want to consider in your name? Does your spa offer any unique treatments that others do not? What is the decor of your spa? European, asian? Is it modern, convervative, earthy? I have helped a couple of spas with names, logos and even their web sites. If you'd be interested in me helping you out, please check out my site www.tripleidesigns.com and contact me from there. We are aggressivley adding to our portfolio so we are offering really great rates on our services right now.

    Hope that helps!
    ';Sally's Salon and Spa';

Or substitute some other name beginning with ';S';. It will make designing the sign more fun, make it easier to remember. Try to avoid puns, they only make it harder to interpret what it is you actually do.
    use ';Curl up and Dye';

it will be like free advertising

    Day Spa/Salon owners?

Hi I need some help from some experienced, non-biased, successful day spa/salon owners.

My sister in law and I have decided to open a day spa/salon/accessory boutique. I need help trying to figure out how to make finances fair between the two of us. I have ran a construction business for the last 7 years (accounting, banking, taxes, etc.), my sister in law is a hair stylist. So she is going to be part owner and keep her job being hair stylist and help when her schedule allows with running the salon. I am going to be part owner, running the salon, and doing retail, taxes, accounting etc. She will obviously have the steady income of her clients, but I will have to leave my positon with my construction company and devote my time to the new spa. How will I get paid? How do you handle finances with a partnership? Bc I dont have clients I dont have a steady income but I feel like I am managing the spa. Please advise. Thank you.Day Spa/Salon owners?

Day Spa/ Salon owners I need your help?

Hi :) Im opening a day spa/salon in a little city in AZ (we have 1 main highway and 1 parkway the cuts over town), there are hair salons and asian nail places on every corner and 1 very old ';day spa'; where they offer massages, facials and body wraps. I will be offering hair, nails, massage, estitician, spa room etc. I am trying to bring a classy nice relaxing place to my little city, I was born and raised here and like the finer things in life, many friends, neighbors and business people are looking very forward to me opening. My problem I have 2 locations and need help picking the one that makes the most business sense.

Building #1...Is on a side road off the main hwy across the street from a side exit of a Super Wal-Mart center, its a beautiful brand new building but semi close to some old apartments and a big Dollar General building is next to this one. The other units in this building are leased by a restaurant, winery, mortgage office, and pottery place.

Building #2...Is a very nice 2 story strip mall on the main hwy the upper level is all office units and the lower level consists of big retail units. The other units that are being leased are a asian nail shop, a clothing boutique, a hair salon, a restaurant, anything medical, farmers ins, a lighting store and several others.

We are worried with 1 bc of location and 2 bc the competing hair and nails.

Please advise thank you :)Day Spa/ Salon owners I need your help?
i don't own a business but i would go to the 1st place (Walmart will attract more customers)

It will all boil down to a lot of factors like your target market (genderwise and how much can they afford), the probability of development in both locations, your unique selling proposition against your competitors, etc. Of course, this will be reflected in your business plan.

your city is soooo small, I presume you are not planning on adding

    in your community.

I make that ';quick claim'; because of the terms

';percent of market'; available. I claim it is less than 5%.

    YOU need 20%.
Location is one of the most important factors.

From your description, id pick the 1st one. less competition, a super wal-mart (that everyone probably goes to), and theres nothing wrong with a Dollar General (in fact it was one of the few stores that is doing well in this economy). The winery (and another type of business that is doing well) couldn't hurt if your stores going to be an upscale luxury salon.
You need to study the leases for both locations. Consider the difference in rent, triple net costs and the like. If the rent is nearly the same, I would go with the first site. Trying to muscle in on established salons is not the smartest way to do business.

If there is an option of bays for site one, try to get one near the winery and away from the Dollar General.

  • Has anyone been on a professional masage in a salon or spa center?

what kind of masage was it?what was it like? what did you like? what you didn't like? please give detailsHas anyone been on a professional masage in a salon or spa center?
The key with massage is not necessarily what kind, but how well the masseuse does and whether or not they listen to you. So if they are massaging too hard, they should listen to you if you want it to be more gentle. If you don't have much money to spend, then you can find a massage school and make an appointment - they always need clients to practice on. Also, massage therapy students need to log ';x'; number of hours on clients before they can be licensed, and they are not allowed to charge for those massages, although you should definitely leave them a tip. I've seen someone a couple of times who is logging hours and have been very happy, and he's not allowed to charge a fee (he has a room set up at the chiropractor's office). But if you have your massage at the actual school, the school may charge a fee. Being a client at a massage school should enable you to afford trying different styles of massage without it costing too much.

Hope this helps.Has anyone been on a professional masage in a salon or spa center?
